CLIFTON PARK — Our rundown with the latest top-five news items concerning Shenendehowa athletics.

ONE: After a comeback win against Columbia a week ago, the Shenendehowa football team heads to Saratoga Springs Friday to take on the rival Blue Streaks in the Section II Class AA semifinals.

Earlier this season, Saratoga Springs walked away with the victory when the teams met.

TWO: A showdown with No. 5 Bethlehem awaits for the No. 1 Shenendehowa girls’ soccer team on Friday at Stillwater High School.

The Shenendehowa squad advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 win Tuesday against Columbia.

Earlier this week, the Shenendehowa boys’ soccer team saw its season end with a 1-0 loss to Saratoga Springs.

THREE: It took a bit for the Shenendehowa field hockey squad to get going Wednesday, but a 5-0 win against Niskayuna was the game’s ultimate result.

With the win, the No. 1 Plainsmen advanced to Sunday’s title game against No. 2 Saratoga Springs at Schuylerville High School. Shenendehowa twice beat Saratoga Springs this season.

Against Niskayuna, Taryn Marra led the team with two goals and an assist.

FOUR: When sectional seeds were awarded earlier this week, both the Shenendehowa boys’ volleyball and Shenendehowa girls’ volleyball team were rewarded.

The boys received the No. 2 seed in Section II Division I, and won their quarterfinal matchup Tuesday against Saratoga Springs with a 3-0 score. In that match, Tom Hurley had 20 assists to lead the way.

Next up, the boys play the winner of today’s match between No. 3 Niskayuna and No. 6 Colonie. That semifinal will take place next Tuesday at Bethlehem High School.

Meanwhile, head coach Lori Kessler’s girls’ squad received the No. 1 seed for the Section II Class AA tournament. Shenendehowa is the five-time defending champion and will play the winner of No. 5 Shaker vs. No. 4 Guilderland next Tuesday at Ballston Spa High School.

FIVE: The postseason is here for the Shenendehowa cross country squads. Both the Plainsmen boys and girls will be in action Saturday at the Saratoga Spa State Park course for the Suburban Council Championships.
